Property worth Rs 2 lakh was reportedly destroyed after a city restaurant in Mapusa caught fire late Wednesday evening.
The fire at Babaji Classic restaurant, situated along the Khorlim bypass, Mapusa, was reported at around 6.20 pm.
Short circuit blamed
Two fire tenders rushed to the site and doused the flames, saving property of around Rs 9 lakh, a fire official informed.
According to information from Mapusa fire station, a short circuit to the electrical panel in the kitchen triggered the fire.
A commercial exhaust fan, kitchen items, electrical panel and food items were destroyed in the fire.
The Mapusa fire station in-charge Bosco Ferrao, Sub-Officers Ashok Parab and D Sawant conducted the operation along with firemen Rohan Naik, Nitin Mayekar, Sagar Kunkolienkar, Subhash Majik, Sanjiv Korgaonkar and Baghwan Palni. Further investigation is in progress.
